One of the most commonly-asked questions that I get as a professional makeup artist is "why doesn't my foundation look good no matter how many different ones I try?" My immediate response is always inquiring about the client's skincare routine - and usually I'm met with an embarrassed admittance that they use bar soap and no moisturizer! Using the proper skin prep - or grouping of products before you apply your makeup - will drastically improve the texture of your skin and create a beautiful glow, which will in turn allow you to use way less foundation and also help that makeup look more like your real skin.
My all-time favorite skin prep products for pre-makeup application are from Chicago-based makeup artist Sonia Roselli. Over the course of her career she has perfected the skin prep routine down to a science, and I can't wait to share with you how to get beautiful glowing skin at home even when I can't be there with you!

The first step in a flawless skin prep routine is to exfoliate with the fan favorite Sex-a-Peel. This instant exfoliant spray rolls away the excess dead skin cells laying on the surface of your skin to reveal a fresh, youthful glow without irritation. I love to use it on my whole body, especially before shaving my legs for the smoothest finish!

The next step in your upgraded skin prep routine is to remove your exfoliant with Japanese Cleansing Oil, a two-part oil cleanser that removes all of your makeup without stripping skin of its natural oils. The pink layer in this cleanser is Vitamin B12, which helps to brighten as it cleanses and leaves your skin feeling super smooth!

Hi Lauren! Exfoliating would definitely help with this - you'd love the Japanese Cleansing Oil, Sexapeel and Water Balm for sure. It's a really easy trio to incorporate into your current routine and gives amazing results! So glad this was a helpful post for you!
This sounds ahhhhmazing. I have had some sort of skincare routine for as long as I can remember (and not just bar soap - ha!) but my skin has never been the same since having children. And considering I NEVER had a pimple before my little ones, it’s been so hard to struggle with tone and texture issues! I have always worn a good bit of make up and “putting my face on” every morning is a big part of me, but now I worry that it draws attention as if I am just trying cover up the unpleasantries! I’m definitely going to have to try this! Thanks, Lexi! 😘
